Rhett Hatcher, former Navy Admiral, joins UK Chamber of Shipping as CEO.

The UK Chamber of Shipping is the trade association and voice of the UK’s shipping industry. The association provides advice to members and represents their interests to enable the delivery of a greener world and greater national prosperity.

• The UK Chamber of Shipping required a seasoned leader, with a passionate interest in shipping and the wider maritime sector. Their CEO also needed to be a diplomat, who could collaboratively represent their members interests in a complex environment.
• Rhett previously held the role of UK National Hydrographer, Deputy Chief Executive and Director for Defence and Data Acquisition, UK Hydrographic Office.
• Rhett was a front-runner in a search amongst strong candidates and was ultimately appointed following an extensive selection process.

Our Approach

At the time of the search, Rhett was already known to Odgers Berndtson, as he, like many senior officers when leaving the Navy, want to discuss their career aspirations with our Maritime and Shipping Practice.

Through our extensive connections, we were delighted to be able to connect Rhett with this fantastic opportunity.

It's a crucial time for shipping with significant developments for the industry, with a new Government in the UK, UK and IMO regulations to drive forward net zero and ongoing geopolitical challenges such as the situation in the Red Sea.

Thus, UK shipping needs a strong and expert voice to advocate for policy and represent its members' interests, in an exciting and challenging operating environment.
