Introduced by Odgers | Success Story
Odgers partnered with Aviation Services Association (ASA World) to identify an exceptional Director-General, with Dr. Waleed Youssef assuming the role in January 2025.
ASA World is the only internationally recognised not-for-profit trade association for aviation services providers, including ground and cargo handling.
What attracted you to the role of Director-General at ASA World?
I have been in the aviation industry for more than 35 years and have always understood the critical role that ground handling and cargo services play within the aviation ecosystem. However, I never felt the ground and cargo handling industry was sufficiently visible or represented, especially in the sphere of policies and regulations.
When I was initially approached for this role, I recognised the unique opportunity to make a positive impact.
I have already introduced a new strategy and am now restructuring our team and resources to become more effective in realising this strategy.
Our members are very active in developing standards and best practices, yet our work and theirs is not sufficiently visible. We need to elevate our profile and voice to better advocate our interests and highlight our challenges with global, regional, and national regulators such as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), and peer organisations such as the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Airports Council International (ACI).
How was your journey with Odgers as you progressed into your new role?
Everyone has been wonderful. It was a lengthy nine-month process, primarily because this was the first time the board appointed a full-time Director-General.
Fortunately, my appointment for this five-year term was unanimous, indicating full support.
