Chris Hamilton and Carmel Gibbons recently joined the Ministry of Health Tech's podcast, ‘The Briefing Room’, to discuss changes to the NHS structure, and what that means for executive talent in the Health Tech and Healthcare sectors.
NHS England currently receives nearly half of all government funding allocated to arm's length bodies. However, within the first year of its term, the Government is initiating significant changes to the national leadership and management of the NHS. This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at reforming what the Prime Minister has described as an overly cautious and inefficient state.
Under this new directive, NHS England is being abolished, with its functions being merged with the Department of Health and Social Care. Both entities are expected to reduce their size by approximately 50%. Additionally, the 42 local Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) will be required to cut their operational costs by over half by October.
Change in healthcare is not a new thing, I think the speed and the extent of the change that is taking place is what a lot of people have noticed most.
Chris and Carmel explored how the industry changes would impact the NHS workforce, and how executives can identify and prepare for new opportunities.
You focus on your day job, you achieve your outcomes and you keep that discipline, but you also then start thinking about what you can add, what value you can bring through your skills and experience to the future of healthcare.
